Web Necessities uses Linux servers of all our web hosting.
What is Linux?
Linux is a Unix-like operating system developed in the early 1990’s. It was developed under an open source model and is a leading operating system for web servers. Found on devices ranging from home computer, Android phones, common consumer device right up to enterprise level servers, it has grown to become a powerful and robust operating system.
Linus has proved to be a very stable platform for operating server. It’s open source licensing and large developer community means it regularly updated with bug, exploits and vulnerabilities repaired very rapidly when found.
What software do you run on you servers?
Our servers are based around what is referred to as a LAMP stack.
LAMP is a very popular platform for web hosting. Additional software includes Bind for DNS handling, Qmail for email and Pure-FTP for file uploads
What software versions do you support?
- Apache 2.4
- PHP 7 (earlier PHP versions on request)
- MySQL 5+
What control panel to you use?
We use the Kloxo-MR control panel rather than the industry standard cPanel. The reason for using Kloxo-MR is that provides a greater degree of flexibility. Our own control panel “WP-Kloxo” is also under development. WP-Kloxo is a fork of Kloxo-MR specifically optimised for WordPress Hosting.
